Choosing a photographer to capture your wedding day, one of the most special days of your life, is a decision not to be taken lightly. You will be surrounded by all your favourite people, there will be tears of joy of laughter and of love and when you look back at your wedding photos in the months and years to come, you want to look at your photos and feel every emotion of your day. I’ve been photographing weddings in Dundee and Angus for over 4 years and now it’s not unusual for me to take bookings for weddings 2 years in advance. Unfortunately I do have to turn couples away when I’m already booked for their wedding date and I’m then asked which wedding photographers I’d recommend. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of 5 of the best wedding photographers in the Dundee and Angus area.
I think it’s so important to be open and honest with my clients and potential clients so if I can’t be there to photograph your special day, I can certainly point you in the right direction of other wedding photographers that you can trust. So let’s jump right in and talk wedding photographers.
How to choose a wedding photographer
There are 3 super-duper important factors that I want you to consider when choosing your wedding photographer. In fact, I might even go so far as to call these deal-breakers.
What is your wedding photographer’s style?
First of all, do you like your wedding photographer’s style? If you want your wedding documented naturally as the day flows you may not relish the thought of having to spend hours away from your guests having staged photos taken if that’s your photographer’s style. Make sure that you see more than one full wedding album instead of a best-of compilation album of many weddings. You want to see the day from start to finish and know that the photographer’s style suits the results that you’re looking for.
How much experience does your wedding photographer have?
Secondly, is your wedding photographer experienced? With wedding photography there are no second chances. An experienced wedding photographer knows the flows of weddings inside-out. She will be able to predict when all the key moments are about to happen so she doesn’t miss a thing….. the Groom’s first look when the Bride walks down the aisle, the exchange of the rings, the first kiss…. and she’ll know exactly where to stand to take the best photos too.
How do you know you can trust your wedding photographer?
Lastly, and I can’t stress this enough, you need to be able to trust your wedding photographer. Do they have good reviews on their website and Facebook pages? Is your wedding photographer a member of a professional photography body such as The Guild of Wedding Photographers? All photographers registered with a professional photography body need to sign up to a strict Code of Conduct. Does your wedding photographer have Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance?
